Vera Bradley Campus

Vera Bradley Interior Main Entrance Reception

Vera Bradley, a Fort Wayne-based manufacturer of quilted handbags and accessories, called on Weigand Construction to craft a facility to house their creative team. The design objective was to promote an environment of inspiration, creativity, and open communication between the various departments, which included design, marketing and retail—all of which serve the worldwide operations of Vera Bradley.

With an ever growing business model and continued diversification, it became a necessity for Vera Bradley to centralize their corporate headquarters onto one campus. In order to accommodate over 700 employees, Weigand was chosen as the Construction Manager for two building additions at their Roanoke campus.  The Design Center added 149,000sf along with 10,000sf to the Distribution Center.

This unique building incorporates elements of sustainability, including the reuse of an existing facility, day lighting concepts via clerestory windows, task lighting, open office space planning for efficient work space, low wattage electrical lighting, storm water management, and recycled materials including carpet, steel, and furniture products.

Triad Metals

Triad Metals Interior - warehouse construction

Triad Metals International is one of the largest structural steel, tubing and mini mill distributors east of the Mississippi River. Triad Metals International was the first company to partner with the Whitley County Redevelopment Commission and build in a new business park in Columbia City, Indiana. The decision to develop in Columbia City allowed Triad to complement their marketing plan in western Ohio and Kentucky.

Weigand was awarded the project after successfully bidding and then negotiating a design/build contract. Groundbreaking on the new 168,000 sf steel distribution warehouse, which includes 7,000sf of office space and six acres of outdoor lay-down area, took place in November 2010.

Ash Skyline Parking Garage

Ash Skyline Parking Aerial Crane

The Ash Skyline Plaza project, situated in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana, began with the demolition of nearly an entire city block, at Wayne and Harrison Street. The first phase of the project included a 468,000sf, 1,077 space, city-owned parking garage. With more activity in the downtown area than ever before, the extra parking was sorely needed.

After the parking garage was finished up, the Ash Brokerage Headquarters was constructed on top of the 4 stories of vehicles, as well as multiple retail storefronts, a YMCA and a Bike Hub on the ground floor facing the street.

Eventually after the construction of the Parking Garage and all that it encompassed, Ash Skyline Plaza was completed with the addition of Skyline Tower on the southwest corner of the block.

To bring its campus size in line with increased enrollment, and in anticipation of future growth, the campus of Purdue Fort Wayne, formerly known as IPFW, has required multiple expansion and remodeling projects. Weigand was chosen to construct the 42,000sf Medical Education Building to accommodate expanded research laboratories and classrooms. The new construction was completed in 2008.

Through a total of 178,000sf of connecting corridors, remodeling, and new construction, the issues of space and student traffic flow were effectively addressed between the library, student union and sports center.

Renovation of the Helmke Library, the only public university library in northeast Indiana, was completed in 2017 to bring refreshed lighting, increased electrical capacity, efficient heating and cooling as well as new finishings throughout the building.

Lutheran Health Network

Lutheran Hospital Registration Remodel

As one of the major healthcare networks in Northeast Indiana, Lutheran Health Network serves more than 50,000 inpatients and hundreds of thousands of outpatients each year. Lutheran Health Network is a healthcare system with multiple locations and satellite offices that serve 23 counties in northeastern Indiana and northwestern Ohio.

In 2012, a 60,000-square-foot fifth floor was added to Lutheran’s existing, occupied hospital facility.

An unusual challenge with this project was the charge to keep public and patient access to the hospital virtually unchanged during construction. A crane was erected inside an existing interior stairwell, rising through the roof to aid material transport from the ground to the construction site.
