By taking advantage of Weigand’s expertise in value engineering, our clients can obtain the greatest
value for every dollar spent. Our estimating specialists, mechanical and electrical engineers work as a part
of a team with you, the owner, and your architect to optimize cost and/or performance of your building
through both design and construction.
The earlier we become involved in the pre-construction phase of a project, the more we can help with
cost-saving (or function-enhancing) suggestions. Typically, the Weigand team will review:
- potential high-cost elements
- construction sequence for cost impact (e.g., winter conditions)
- material availability
- alternative construction materials and methods
- constructability of the design
We’ve applied the value engineering discipline for many years over thousands of projects, so we
have the knowledge base to recognize potential problems or cost issues very quickly. Sometimes
we make recommendations, such as shifting key construction phases to different seasons, that save
time and help you get your building finished more efficiently. Or we might suggest seemingly
minor changes, such as a slightly different size brick, that result in significant labor savings.
The key to value engineering, as we see it, is analyzing the ultimate function of the
building and determining ways to improve it and/or make it less costly. As many of our
clients have already found, Weigand Construction can be a significant asset in helping
you get the most for your money.
